Winter Show

Well winter has been fully upon us for a while now and we completely understand the habit of hibernation. It’s been freezing, at least in New York it has been, and the last thing you want to do is travel anywhere other than to work, home or out with friends.

Sometimes making that extra trip out to the gym or for a run is discouraging in this type of weather. Not only that but cold weather does not encourage healthy eating. Maybe you’re dressed in roomy sweaters to keep you warm and you’re comfy cozy and what do you want to eat? Comfy, cozy hot foods! And just like that, you’re in hibernation mode.

It’s important to keep in mind that going into hibernation mode might be fun now but spring and summer are just around the corner. They will come, whether we feel like they will or not at this point, and if you don’t try to stay focused with your eating and workouts now, you’ll have more work to do once the warm weather rolls around and you shed those comfy sweaters!

Check out the Tips page for ways to beat the hibernation habit!

This week’s cheat isn’t even that much of a cheat.  We totally faked out our taste buds here with this VERY healthy cheat of Baked Apples with Coconut Milk!  We agree that you could even leave out the coconut milk and it would still be just as yummy!  But you simply microwave a cored apple, add some chilled coconut cream or coconut milk, silvered almonds and cinnamon and voila! Check out the link to the recipe for more specifics and enjoy!

Additionally,  Michelle’s studio had a birthday to celebrate today and the birthday girl requested non GMO baked goods and Michelle found Jennifer’s Way Bakery - A Gluten Free, Non GMO, Soy, Dairy, Peanut free bakery.  The cupcakes were baked fresh before they were delivered this afternoon and the staff said they were amazing!  Michelle is having her cupcake tomorrow after this final day of Whole30 ends!

recipe rundown

This past Sunday we made this fantastic No Bean Chili With Roasted Butternut Squash!  Its great for a Sunday prep day and we’ve been having it for lunches all week!  The recipe calls for ground beef and lamb cut into cubes, or steak but we used ground beef and chicken so feel free to alter the protein as you like! The butternut squash with the chili were the perfect balance of sweet and spicy and its also recommended to add avocado. Its totally delish!

Chinese New Year began on January 31st and Beachbody put out a list of some wondefful Chinese New Year Recipes!  They look amazing!

Calorie Myth Cover

This week’s book is The Calorie Myth: How to Eat More, Exercise Less, Lose Weight, and Live Better by Jonathan Bailor.

We are extremely interested in picking up this book as we’ve heard a lot about it and since coming to the end of Whole30, where the principals do not rely on calorie counting but personal portion sizes, we are curious to find out Bailor’s approach.

The book gets amazing reviews with weight loss success stories to go along with it. If you get to pick this up, let us know!

Magazine Rack

This week’s article on the Magazine Rack is from Fitness Magazine titled Postcard From The Edge – by Claudia Lebenthal.

This personal essay from author and skier Claudia Lebenthal is an account of her experience happening upon a challenging slope, one she most likely would not have ventured to had she heard about its terrain.  But with no turning back she had no choice but to take a risk and reach a new personal level.  While on the mountain she waited to see other more experienced skiers and a young college kid came by.  When she asked him some pointers and that this wasn’t quite her level, he said to her “Well, you’re skiing it, Its your level now.”

That moment changed her life. Check out the article to find out how! And the moral of this story, never let any new fitness challenge scare you (with caution). You usually come out the other side a stronger, more confident person, not only in your workouts but in your every day life!
